What Makes a High-Converting Open Graph Social Card?
1. Use 1200×630px (1.91:1) PNG, JPG, or WebP Images Under 1 MB
A 1200×630px landscape image satisfies Facebook, LinkedIn, X (summary_large_image), Slack, Discord, and iMessage simultaneously. Keep your image file size under 300 KB – 1 MB (X enforces a strict 5 MB maximum limit, and WhatsApp mobile skips images over 300–600 KB). Never use .svg files for og:image.
2. Always Use Absolute HTTPS URLs & Declare Image Dimensions
Unlike standard HTML <img> tags, Open Graph scrapers do not reliably resolve relative paths like /images/share.png. Always specify the full https://domain.com/... URL and include og:image:width and og:image:height so Facebook renders your card on the very first share.
3. Match og:url to Your Page's Canonical URL
Social crawlers treat og:url as the canonical pointer for the shared page. If a subpage accidentally sets og:url to your homepage, Facebook and LinkedIn will ignore the subpage and display your homepage's title and image instead.
